mthd, as a short hand for ‘more-than-human-design’, also conjures the word ‘method’, after losing its vowels.
This points to the primary mission of this website, as a commons to support and foster pragmatic action in developing more-than-human-design practices in a time of precarious futures.
As a platform it offers a way to connect communities and individuals who practice some form of creative (or generative) more-than-human engagement, to foster collective action.
We use the term ‘more-than-human-design’ (mthd) to describe practices which may be grounded in diverse design disciplines including permaculture, architecture, art, interior, landscape, industrial, graphic, and makers of all kinds including writers, gardeners, business owners, craftspeople, software developers.
mthd commons was founded in 2020, by a small group who met weekly online to explore a shared interest in more-than-human-design: Prof Pia Ednie-Brown [University of Newcastle], Charity Edwards [Monash University], Dr Amelia Hine [Queensland University of Technology], and Assoc Prof Sam Spurr [University of Newcastle],
